About Brooklyn Biltong
Brooklyn Biltong starts with a grandfather in Pretoria, South Africa. Founder Ben van den Heever credits Oupa Dawie, a respected hunter, with making some of the best biltong in that city. Van den Heever brought that family tradition to the United States as what the brand calls Brooklyn-inspired biltong. The stated aim is to honor Oupa Dawie's legacy while giving the snack a healthier twist. That means a range the brand describes as gluten-free, Whole30 and inclusive of different dietary needs. The brand calls this its "Healthy Snack Delight" movement and says it prioritizes responsible sourcing.
What makes Brooklyn Biltong different
Biltong is not jerky, and Brooklyn Biltong leans on the difference. According to the brand, biltong is cured with vinegar and slowly air-dried as a whole slab without heat, while jerky is sliced thin and dehydrated with heat and sugary marinades. The brand credits that absence of cooking for a tender, steak-like texture instead of a leathery chew. Every product is 100% grass-fed and finished beef, air-dried in small batches, never cooked and never smoked. The brand states there is no added sugar, no fillers and no nitrates, lists the range as Keto, Paleo and Whole30 certified, and describes it as gluten-free, dairy-free and non-GMO, with the caveat that the gluten-free claim is not certified.
Brooklyn Biltong flavors we carry
Every bag is the same grass-fed beef air-dried the same way, so what you are choosing is the seasoning. The plainest is beef, apple cider vinegar and kosher salt and nothing else, the one to pick if you want to taste the beef itself or need the shortest ingredient list. Pepper Coriander is billed as the original flavor: black pepper and aromatic coriander on thin-sliced beef with a delicate texture. From there the lineup moves to savory garlic with a soft, flavorful bite, to bright lemon and cracked black pepper, and to a chili version the brand describes simply as bold. Brooklyn Biltong sits within our wider biltong selection, and as air-dried beef with no added sugar it also lands among our healthy jerky and paleo jerky picks alongside the rest of our beef jerky. Everything currently in stock is in the grid above.
Who it's for
If you want mild, most of the range qualifies; only the chili flavor calls out any heat, so start elsewhere if you are unsure of your tolerance. Expect a tender, steak-like chew rather than the snap of dehydrated jerky. None of the manufacturer's ingredient lists carries a "Contains" line; the ingredients are beef, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt and spices, and the brand states its facility handles none of the nine major allergens.
