About Armory Rd

Armory Rd reads like a brand built by friends first and a business second. Its origin story is one line long: two friends had an idea. The idea, in the brand's words, was to make great food, serve the community and have fun doing it. The site names neither founder and gives no founding date or hometown. What it does lay out is the product: artisanal, hand-crafted beef jerky that starts with select premium cuts, is naturally cured and slow cooked, and is free of artificial ingredients. Armory Rd calls the result the "best damn jerky in the USA." The brand says it is proud to be a product of the USA, and that it supports troops through Tomahawk Charitable Solution.

What makes Armory Rd different

Four homepage badges carry the brand's pitch: real ingredients, slow cooked, no added nitrates and gluten free. Armory Rd says it uses unique flavors and spices and leaves out what it calls everything you don't want. Flavor is meant to run deep within the meat rather than sit at the surface, a point the brand makes on its Original page, where the seasoning is built on subtle molasses, background allspice and a tamari soy sauce the brand calls special. Armory Rd even says it is in the process of renaming the Original, because it isn't a typical original flavor.

Armory Rd flavors we carry

Everything Armory Rd makes is beef jerky. If you want the baseline, start with the Original, which the brand describes as deep and bold rather than typical, with molasses up front, allspice behind it and tamari soy sauce for balance; it sits comfortably among the original beef jerky from other brands here. If you want some heat, Sweet Habanero was developed, according to the manufacturer, to be approachable: low to moderate heat that varies slightly from piece to piece, with a subtle sweetness that mellows it. The brand calls it the clear leader on bold, rich flavor, good company for the habanero beef jerky and the wider sweet and spicy beef jerky on the site.

Who it's for

Expect slow-cooked beef that is, according to the manufacturer, free of artificial ingredients with no added nitrates. Heat tops out at what the brand calls low to moderate in Sweet Habanero; no heat is called out for the Original. Armory Rd labels its jerky gluten free, but the site doesn't publish ingredient panels or a Contains line, and the Original description names tamari soy sauce, so count on soy and read the bag if you're sensitive.
