About Hollar Boys Jerky
Some jerky brands start with a business plan; this one started with a smoker in a backyard. Hollar Boys Jerky began in Middletown, Delaware, as a father-and-son project. Phillip Hollar and his son, Phillip Hollar Jr., are the founders, and they describe the early days as the two of them experimenting with their smoker to come up with new jerky flavors. There were failed attempts along the way. In the brand's own telling, those misfires eventually gave way to the irresistible flavors it presents to the world today. Hollar Boys lists loyalty, professionalism and teamwork as its values, and states a mission of providing protein snacks to hard-working Americans and the military forces that serve the country. Its message, in short, is that life can throw you around but you never give up. The brand also runs a monthly club that ships jerky straight to your door.
What makes Hollar Boys Jerky different
Hollar Boys says it starts with premium, all-natural cuts of beef and seasons them with a unique blend of spices inspired by family recipes. The part the brand calls the kicker is the smoking: unlike most big brands, its jerky is smoked slowly and locally, which it credits for the rich, bold flavor it says only traditional methods can deliver. Every flavor carries the same three badges, premium ingredients, hickory smoked and 30g protein, and the product listings describe the beef as slow smoked with real wood smoke. The brand also bills every batch as small batch and handcrafted, with no fillers and real spices, and tags its bags low salt, all natural and no nasty stuff. Its home page calls it Delaware's best beef jerky, a claim that is plainly their own.
Hollar Boys Jerky flavors we carry
Everything in this lineup is beef, and most of it leans sweet with some pepper behind it. If you want the baseline, Original is billed as sweet, savory and peppery, the flavors off a sizzling steak, and it sits comfortably alongside the rest of our original-style beef jerky. Chesapeake is the regional one: tasting notes of bay seasoning, a tangy kick and savory, pitched squarely at anyone who enjoys Maryland bay seasoning. Peach Bourbon is sweet juicy peaches, savory and a hint of bourbon with a dash of red pepper flakes, while Southern BBQ is a sweet, savory, vinegar-based barbecue that belongs with our other barbecue beef jerky. Honey Habanero brings sweet, savory and peppery with a kick of habanero, which puts it in good company with the sweet and spicy beef jerky we stock from other makers.
Fuego is the hot one as the brand describes it: an enjoyable slow burn from ghost peppers and Carolina Reaper peppers layered over the original marinade, a natural next bag if you already shop our ghost pepper beef jerky. Each bag is 2 oz and carries the 30g protein badge. For more small-brand smoked beef, browse the full beef jerky collection. Everything currently in stock is in the grid above.
Who it's for
Heat runs from no chili called out on Southern BBQ and Chesapeake, through Peach Bourbon's dash of red pepper flakes and Honey Habanero's kick, up to Fuego's ghost pepper and reaper burn, so cautious and committed chili eaters both have a bag here. The manufacturer doesn't publish texture notes beyond slow smoked with real wood smoke, so expect a traditional smoked jerky rather than a soft-cut style. Low salt and all natural are the manufacturer's statements; none of the flavors in this lineup carries a gluten-free, keto or other diet label on the manufacturer's site. The manufacturer doesn't post ingredient lists for these flavors online either, so check the allergen panel on each bag rather than assuming one flavor matches the next.
