About Vaquero Bandido
Most jerky on the shelf is sweet and chewy, and Vaquero Bandido exists because its makers were tired of that. Parent company Vaquero Snacks says it began with a craving for something real. Co-founder Ruben Reyes grew up on carne seca, the kind he remembers drying in the sun in an uncle's backyard, no sugar or gimmicks needed. Taking its cue from the carne seca of the Mexican borderlands, the brand built a crispy, high-protein snack for the gym, the trail and the road. Co-founder Chip Cruea served in U.S. Navy Special Forces, and the brand carries a veteran-owned badge. It backs Heroes and Horses, a Montana nonprofit that takes combat veterans into the backcountry, and calls the result carne seca with a cause.
What makes Vaquero Bandido different
Vaquero Bandido describes its process as time-tested carne seca methods paired with modern technique. It starts with high-quality, lean beef sliced thin for an even cook and, the brand says, a crisp in every piece. The strips are marinated in simple spices, infused with hickory wood smoke condensed into liquid form for what the brand calls a natural smoky flavor, then slow-cooked in a low-temperature oven for several hours. According to the manufacturer there is no sugar, no preservatives and nothing artificial.
Vaquero Bandido flavors we carry
Every Vaquero Bandido bag here is thin, crispy beef carne seca billed as protein-packed, so your choice is seasoning and heat. If you want the beef to do the talking, original is described as savory and slightly smoky with minimal seasoning, a neighbor to our original beef jerky. Lemon is a tangy, citrusy kick over savory beef, with no heat called out. Chile is what the brand calls a spicy twist on the classic, kin to our chili beef jerky. Hot honey pairs raw honey with a slow-building chile kick, a balance you will know from our sweet and spicy beef jerky. Habanero brings what the manufacturer calls a powerful punch of heat; compare it with our other habanero beef jerky or the wider spicy beef jerky shelf. Everything currently in stock is in the grid above.
Who it’s for
Vaquero Bandido is for you if you would rather have a thin, crispy bite than a soft, chewy strip. Heat runs from none called out on original and lemon to a habanero described as a powerful punch, whether you avoid spice or chase it. The brand states no sugar, no preservatives and nothing artificial and positions the snack for keto and paleo; hot honey, per its own page, is sweetened with raw honey. The site publishes no ingredient lists or allergen statements, so read the bag if you have an allergy.
